Design Advice: My Interior Essentials

I was reading through a great blog post from Emily Henderson outlining her 12 essentials for styling a room for a photo shoot. Perhaps not so surprisingly, I own more than a few of her little trade secret trinkets because, welp -- #ithinkwewouldbeBFFs if we met. Aside from my harmless girl crush on her, I just really love the fact that she is an approachable designer in an industry that kind of prides itself in high prices and needless pretension.

Channeling my inner Emily and adding to her list, is my own list of luxuries and doodads that you can add to just about any room to give it a weekend refresh! A little brass piggy here, a few layered rugs there and VOILA! you have a new-to-you room for very little moolah and hardly any effort!

Little Luxuries: HRUSKAA Homewares

Every once in a while, I find myself browsing Etsy... for 4+ hours straight. Naturally, I see a LOT of really cool stuff and read about how artists are doing some incredible new things. While I am not paid to write about my new favorite Etsy shop, HRUSKAA, maybe I should be! A beautiful mix of vintage and modern, these mobiles and planters would are a beautiful way to adorn a bare apartment corner or creatively plant a grouping of succulents! Super architectural, a little bit glam, and just all around cool,  the HRUSKAA brass himmeli mobile is the #1 item on my birthday list!

Sweet Little Somethings [MOOD BOARD]

I l-l-love pink and red. It has been my favorite color combination for forever and probably because wearing these bold colors together takes some real confidence and sass. Naturally, one would assume that Valentine's Day should be my favorite holiday- while it is not my favorite "holiday," it is my favorite day/week/month to wear the color combination without hesitation! And the brighter the better!!

When it comes to Valentine's Day, I think that we all get a little stuck. How do you make it special without being to kitschy? Do you decorate or do you hope that your man has read your mind and has the house covered in candles? Do you have a girls night or boycott the whole "holiday" altogether?

Whatever your outlook on the "holiday" might be, here is a pink & red guide to a perfect (or at least perfectly stylish) Valentine's Day!

Entertaining: Holiday Tablescapes, sort of.

If we've met and had even one meal together (aside from lunch in the office break room) then you know about my deep, profound love for a thoughtfully designed tablescape. This might sound silly or frivolous to most, but my grandmother taught me that the devil is in the details and there are few other places where this is so perfectly showcased. 

I really meant for this post to be red and green and glittery for the holidays, but I couldn't resist keeping the pictures below for a future blog! Passion or Obsession? Who cares!

Gift List or Wish List?

The holidays are upon us and finding the perfect present for every member of my family becomes my extreme obsession right around....well, now.  I pride myself in finding those awesome clever-but-still-thoughtful presents for those that I love, but here is where I run into my most major snag. Searching for the "perfect present" means that I end up spending about 75% finding things to add to my own list. 

So -- er-- here is the beginning of my personal list after my first 3 hour Etsy session of the season!

POM POM POMs

I don't know anyone who doesn't love them, and my obsession with them has always seemed a bit more extreme than most. So why not start out my inaugural post will a salute to one of my most favorite little luxuries... POM-POMs!!

It is ridiculously easy to spruce up those functional IKEA curtains with a little brightly colored pom-pom trim. I have them tacked to my inspiration board and hanging from my ceiling just because the sight of them can really turn around a long work session. Now that the days are getting shorter and the shadows longer, I can be seen sporting one next to a messy up-do too. A top knot with a pom-pom?! Why (k)not!
